Why Vision and Purpose?
A very famous man said …
I have a dream. In a very famous speech in August 1963 Martin Luther King said:
“And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed.”
He was setting out his Vision for the American people, a true rallying cry for justice and democracy, a new beginning on a shared path to a destination of equality. This famous speech is a powerful example of the Vision that successful businesses, teams and individuals moving towards to achieve success. They set where they are headed, usually with a time frame in mind.
What also sets these businesses and people apart is aligning this vision with a shared purpose. When businesses have this massive transformative purpose they are able to bind people to a reason for being, not having them just read the mission statement. It is emotive and creates impact. It should work at a wider level for clients and partners, as well as internally for staff, the individuals who make the difference for your business.
My purpose, and the purpose of some of my partners is to make the world a better place. What is yours?
Do you have a clear Vision and Purpose to take your business or team to where you want?
